About

Robby Duiveman is Director of the Costume and Makeup Department at the Amsterdam State Opera.

He held similar positions at the Salzburg Festival and the Ruhrtriennale. He was also Professor of Costume and Decor History at the Salzburg Mozarteum, director of costume workshops at La Monnaie in Brussels and costume designer at the Staatsoper in Hamburg. He has created costumes for the Hamburg Ballet, the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Zimmertheater Tübingen, the Ruhrtriennale, the Salzburg Festival (The Clemency of Titus in 2017 in the staging of Peter Sellars), the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg , the Welsh National Opera, the Amsterdam National Opera, the Holland Festival, the Opéra national de Paris (Tosca in staging by Pierre Audi, Only the Sound Remains with Peter Sellars).
As a costume collaborator, he has worked with Robert Wilson at the Ruhrtriennale, at the Opera and Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, at the Taipei National Theater, at the Amsterdam State Opera, at the Schleswig Holstein Festival, the Teatro Real de Madrid, the Barcelona Liceu and the Barbican Center in London, and with Miuccia Prada at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 2006 he received the Dutch Fashion Award. In 2014, he directed the exhibition "Eiko Ishioka, costumes for Der Ring des Nibelungen" at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
