In November 2013, Michael Kupfer-Radecky was invited at the Teatro Municipal São Paulo/Brazil for Wotan/RHEINGOLD as well as Jochanaan/SALOME. He sang the former role at the “Tiroler Festspiele” Erl 2014 too and presented himself as Jochanaan in February 2014 at the Royal Opera Stockholm. In june 2014, he stepped in in short term as Wotan/RHEINGOLD at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, under Valery Gergiev.
After that, he was immediately invited again for Jochanaan in St. Petersburg and for a Mariinsky performance in Tokyo as well as for a recital of DIE SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN at the Mariinsky.
Further, he appeared as Faninal/ROSENKAVALIER at the Beijing Opera and at the Bolshoi in Moscow and as Kurwenal/TRISTAN AND ISOLDE at the Wagner Festival in Wels. In summer 2015, he sang his first Hans Sachs/MEISTERSINGER at the “Tiroler Festspiele” Erl and was acclaimed for his outstanding performance by the audiences and the press. The artist has meanwhile sung Hans Sachs/MEISTERSINGER again within a tournée of the “Tiroler Festspiele” in Beijing as well as Wotan/RHEINGOLD in Shanghai.
He appeared recently as Kommandant in Strauss’ FRIEDENSTAG at the Budapest Festival and as ELIAS with the Taiwan Philharmonic in Taipei.
Highlights in his career include appearances at Royal Albert Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich, Aalto Theatre in Essen, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Teatro Comunale Bologna.
Since 2000 the artist is a regular guest at the “Tiroler Festspiele”, presenting himself in roles such as Eisenstein/DIE FLEDERMAUS by Johann Strauss, Donner, Gunther and Wotan in Wagner’s RING, Kurwenal/TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, Klingsor/PARSIFAL, Wolfram/TANNHÄUSER, Orest/ELEKTRA and Hans Sachs/MEISTERSINGER.
At the opening of the new festival hall he performed Conte Almaviva in a production of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO.
A special highlight in the career of this artist was a call by the Opera de Paris Bastille to jump in for Gerald Finley as Hans Sachs under Philippe Jordan in the running production of DIE MEISTERSINGER (May 2016). It turned out to be a big personal success for Michael Kupfer- Radecky.
Recent and future engagements include: Wotan/RHEINGOLD and Gunther/GÖTTER- DÄMMERUNG at the “Tiroler Festspiele” in Erl, Faninal in a revival of ROSENKAVALIER at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and in Beiing, Jochanaan in a new production of SALOME under Alexander Soddy in Klagenfurt, Wotan in a revival of WALKÜRE at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, Nardo in a concert version of LA FINTA GIARDINIERA in Munich, Hans Sachs/MEISTERSINGER at La Scala, Pizarro/LEONORE in a semi-staged version under Ivor Bolton at the Dresden Festival etc.
Besides opera he devotes much of his time to oratorio and concert work. THE CREATION and THE SEASONS by Joseph Haydn, Bach’s ST. JOHN PASSION and ST. MATTHEW PASSION, Beethoven’s IX. SYMPHONY, Brahms’ GERMAN REQUIEM, Mahler’s DAS LIED VON DER ERDE and Mendelssohn’s ELIAS, to name a few titles.
He was invited to Japan, Italy, Germany and Austria for recitals, including the important cycles as WINTERREISE, DIE SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN or DICHTERLIEBE.
He recently released a recording of Schubert’s WINTERREISE, accompanied by Margarita Oganesyan.
Michael Kupfer-Radecky has worked with conductors such as Ingo Metzmacher, Marek Janowski, Gustav Kuhn, Marcello Viotti, Paul Daniels and Markus Stenz, etc.
He was invited by important orchestras like The BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, the Rundfunkorchester des BR and the Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest.
The artist performed under stage directors such as Harry Kupfer, Willi Decker, Eike Grams, Pierre Audi, Keith Warner, Georges Delnon and Francois de Carpentier.
Michael Kupfer-Radecky is laureate of numerous competitions and foundations, e.g. the Richard Wagner Foundation and the “Freunde der Bayerischen Staatsoper e.V.”. The renowned opera magazine “Opernwelt” named the singer “best upcoming artist of the season” in 2009.
