About

James Conlon is an American conductor known for his work in opera, symphony music, and special attention to little-known or forgotten works of music. He was born on March 18, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. Conlon was one of the most prominent conductors of his generation and built his career on a strong combination of detailed musical knowledge and charisma.

 

James Conlon received his musical education at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied conducting under such renowned musicians as Leonard Bernstein, and also spent time in Europe studying Italian and German musical traditions.

Conlon made his opera debut in 1974, and since then he has worked with many leading orchestras and theaters around the world. He was a long-time musical director of the Los Angeles Opera (2006-2015), and also held positions in such well-known theaters as 

Conlon is known for his work with challenging music, including works from the 20th century and lesser-known works from the classical repertoire. He is also actively engaged in presenting the music of contemporary composers. His repertoire includes works by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler.

James Conlon has also performed many world premieres and is contributing to the revival of forgotten operatic works. He is actively working to create a more inclusive music environment and pays special attention to music from different cultures.

In addition to his conducting career, Conlon is actively involved in educational programs, teaching young musicians and conductors. His contribution to music education and the popularization of classical music makes him an important figure not only in conducting, but also in musical culture in general.

James Conlon is a conductor with a wealth of experience who combines tradition with modern approaches to music. His work is of great importance for the preservation and development of classical music, and his influence is felt both on and off the stage.
