Programme

Overview

Planet Tree Music Festival No.12 opens with James D'Angelo's jazz-inflected piano and clarinet works at 14:00, followed by Gina Fergione and Lawrence Ball's pioneering sung-and-spoken poetry at 16:30. Join us for an afternoon of premieres that bridge classical tradition, jazz spirit and poetic exploration. On Saturday 7 November at Colet House, London, the twelfth Planet Tree Music Festival offers an evocative afternoon of chamber and voice. At 14:00, composer-pianist James D'Angelo joins soprano Jennifer Walker and clarinettist Stephen Bennett for a programme that pairs D'Angelo's own songs and clarinet pieces with defining works by Copland, Prokofiev, Debussy, Poulenc and Catoire. The interplay of tonal lyricism, jazz inflection and slanted harmonies creates a reflective, yet spirited sound world. At 16:30, singer-composer Gina Fergione and pianist Lawrence Ball reveal a new performance medium, where poems are alternately sung and spoken within semi-composed musical frameworks. Each duet breathes fresh life into the text, unfolding the emotional and intellectual layers of language in real time. Whether enjoyed in the intimate atmosphere of Colet House or via live stream, this double bill promises an immersive journey through innovation, expression and the healing resonance of music.
