Welsh choreographer and movement director Andrew George made his Royal Opera debut in 1998 on Le nozze di Figaro in the Shaftesbury Theatre. He has since worked on Salome, Adriana Lecouvreur, Les Troyens and Andrea Chénier, all directed by David McVicar.

George was born in South Wales and trained at Laban Dance Centre. He worked as a dancer for Matthew Bourne before beginning his career as an opera choreographer, and now works for the world’s leading companies. His UK choreography credits include Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (also Chicago, San Francisco) Carmen (also Gothenburg, Dallas, Bergen) and Giulio Cesare in Egitto (also Metropolitan Opera, New York, Chicago, Lille) for Glyndebourne Festival; La traviata (also Geneva, Teatro Real, Madrid, Liceu, Barcelona and Welsh National Opera), The Rake’s Progress (also Turin) for Scottish Opera; The Turn of the Screw, Der Rosenkavalier (also Scottish Opera), Agrippina, Die Walküre and The Handmaid’s Tale for English National Opera and A Love for Three Oranges and I Capuleti e i Montecchi for Grange Park Opera.

George’s international credits include Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Anna Bolena, Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Don Giovanni for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Rusalka(also San Francisco) and Wozzeck (also Helsinki) for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Tristan und Isolde in Tokyo and Vienna, Der Ring des Nibelungen for Opéra national du Rhin, L’incoronazione di Poppea for Berlin State Opera, La Monnaie, Brussels, and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Don Carlos in Frankfurt, Tannhäuser for La Scala, Milan and Les Contes d’Hoffmann for Salzburg Festival.
