An evocative journey through mourning, memory, and hope, performed by a chamber choir at its expressive best.In the solemn opening of Duarte Lôbo’s Missa pro defunctis, sonorous polyphony evokes a sense of ancient ritual and collective remembrance. This Portuguese Requiem, celebrated from Lisbon to the Spanish Netherlands, finds luminous counterpoint in Tomás Luis de Victoria’s O quam gloriosum and Versa est in luctum, where radiant harmonies rise above lingering darkness. William Byrd’s music follows with crystalline clarity, offering moments of serene reflection, before the deeply expressive works of William Harris, Charles Villiers Stanford, and Hubert Parry bring the program to a stirring close.
