Programme
Overview

Accompanied by British pianist Hyung-ki Joo, Lithuania will once again have a rare opportunity to see the painful and somewhat ironic birth story of a world-famous opera diva on stage.

"I once told myself: I will achieve so much in opera that no one will doubt me, and then I will sing whatever I want," says Asmik Grigorian.

The first part of her promise to herself came true in spades. The strangest thing is that the second part came true at the same time: Asmik realized that opera was exactly what she wanted to sing. And having realized this, she decided to tell the audience about her entire journey and inner conflict.

Thus was born "A Diva is Born" - a performance that no opera soloist had dared to create.

A Diva is Born is a unique experience and an incredible opportunity to touch the sensitive, sharp, and often unforgiving soul of Asmik.

A concert that critics initially called impossible, but later, having regained their promise, showered with compliments.

Here are just a few of them after performances in Salzburg and Vienna:

  • "Asmik Grigorian is the only one who can sing Carmen and Lady Gaga in one concert."
  • "Asmik Grigorian is the most unpredictable and captivating opera soloist. She boldly pushes boundaries."
  • "A Diva is Born" is an astonishing show. A truly unique experience. Asmik Grigorian continues to set new global opera standards."
  • "Asmik Grigorian is a diva in the best sense of the word: sparkling-eyed, endlessly talented, with the courage to be passionate and insanely honest. This is a very personal show."

The program "A Diva is Born" was shown only once in Vilnius. Then, not everyone who wanted to see it could fit in the hall.

The concert features Giacomo Puccini's "O mio babbino caro", Georges Bizet's "Habanera"... Classics that you can always find in the collection of "The Twenty Most Beautiful Arias in the World". And in Asmik Grigorian's performance, you want to listen to it forever. But here - Lady Gaga's "Shallow", and Sting's "Moon over Bourbon Street"... The thing you least expect from a performance by a world-famous opera soloist.

The following contribute their talents to the story of "A Diva is Born": virtuoso pianist Hyung-ki Joo, director Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, who aptly and visually assembled the details of the show into one picture, sound director Philipp Treiber, lighting designer Andrius Stasiulis, videographer, animation artist Linartas Urniežis, designer Aurimas Kadzevičius, and production company "Promostar".

Venue Info

Palanga Concert Hall - Palanga
Location   Vytauto street 43

The Palanga Concert Hall (Palangos koncertų salė) is one of the principal cultural venues of Palanga, located near the Baltic Sea in the heart of Lithuania's most popular seaside resort. Opened in 2015, the modern venue was created to provide Palanga with a contemporary space for concerts and major cultural events throughout the year.

The building is particularly notable for its distinctive elliptical form, designed to complement the urban landscape while providing excellent sightlines and acoustics. The main auditorium can accommodate approximately 2,200 spectators, making it one of the largest concert venues on the Lithuanian coast.

The hall hosts a diverse programme spanning classical music, opera, jazz, popular music, dance, and large-scale cultural events. During the summer season, its programme becomes an important part of Palanga's vibrant resort calendar, attracting both Lithuanian audiences and visitors from abroad.

Its acoustic design allows the venue to accommodate a broad range of performances, from symphonic concerts and vocal recitals to amplified contemporary music. The spacious stage and modern technical infrastructure also make it suitable for touring productions and large ensembles.

The concert hall's location adds to its appeal. Situated close to Palanga's main promenade and the Baltic coastline, it allows visitors to combine an evening performance with the atmosphere of the seaside resort. The surrounding parks, historic villas, cafés, and beach create a distinctive cultural setting that is quite different from a traditional urban concert destination.

As one of Palanga's most important contemporary landmarks, the hall has strengthened the city's position as a cultural destination in Lithuania, complementing its historic architecture and long-established tradition as a summer resort.
