Palacio Libertad

Welcome to the Palacio Libertad, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Cultural Center ! The largest and most prestigious cultural center in Latin America, distinguished by its diverse artistic offerings with national and international relevance.

Led by its director, Valeria Ambrosio , the cultural center proposes a reimagining of the space: “From the palace, towards the avant-garde.” In her words: “A new management, a new perspective, a need to shed light. Throughout human history, after complex times, something is always reborn, rebuilt, and finds something new. 'Towards the avant-garde' is an attempt to guide us towards this new path, a quest based on necessary reflection that takes us back to our origins in order to embark on a different journey… We are interested in all forms of expression interacting and integrating.”

An emblematic building in the City of Buenos Aires, the former Palace of Post and Telegraphs, it has more than one hundred thousand square meters of surface area and an infrastructure on par with the most important cultural centers in the world.

The project is the result of an international design competition, which attracted entries from over 340 architectural firms from more than 20 countries. Its spaces combine the high heritage value of the existing building with state-of-the-art technology.

Originally designed in 1911 by architect Norbert Maillart and inaugurated in 1928, the Palace – along with its furnishings – was declared a National Historic Monument and Heritage Site in 1997.

Currently, the Palacio Libertad - Centro Cultural Domingo Faustino Sarmiento houses more than 70 exhibition spaces where dance, music, theater, visual arts, film, literature, performing arts and new technologies come together, with concerts, recitals, exhibitions, shows, workshops, screenings, fairs and a specific program for children.

The  National Auditorium , boasting excellent acoustics, houses the  Klais 1912 organ . With a capacity of 1,750 spectators and a stage of 250 square meters, it is one of the most important symphony halls in the world.

The  Sala Argentina , designed for acoustic music, chamber music, and performance art, has a capacity of 540 people. Constructed entirely of wood, it boasts exceptional acoustics.

The Dome  is one of the great attractions of the cultural center, with an area of 500 square meters and an entirely glazed roof that allows a unique view of the heart of the city.

The Great Lamp , an exhibition space, covers 2000 square meters, is located in the center of the building, and consists of a hanging, glazed structure.
