Overview

From Carnegie Hall to Davies Symphony Hall...

Following its New York performance this summer at Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Royal Orchestra brings its VIVA MOZART 270 celebration to Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.

This special concert honors the 270th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of history's most beloved and influential musical geniuses. Audiences will enjoy an inspiring program of Mozart's timeless masterpieces, performed by distinguished musicians from Europe and the United States.

Internationally celebrated pianist Tian Jiang appears as soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488. Praised as "a thoughtful interpreter" by The New York Times and "a deeply persuasive Mozartean" by The Los Angeles Times, he is recognized for performances that combine poetic artistry, technical mastery, and expressive depth.

In 2018, Tian Jiang received the Alumni Achievement Award from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in recognition of his outstanding contributions to music and cultural exchange.

Joining him is Patrick Rafter, one of Ireland's leading violinists, performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, K. 218. Celebrated for his brilliant technique and compelling musicianship, Rafter brings elegance and virtuosity to this beloved concerto.

The program also features child prodigies Shay Mowbray, age six, and Anson Wong, age nine, highlighting the Vienna Royal Orchestra's commitment to supporting the next generation of exceptional young artists.

Under the direction of conductor Matthew Busse, the Vienna Royal Orchestra joined by members of the Imperial Valley Symphony Orchestra, continues its mission of artistic excellence, education, and cultural exchange. Dr. Busse will also be featured as a composer with a performance of his Idyll for Violin and Orchestra.

Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating the enduring brilliance of Mozart—from Vienna to New York, and now to San Francisco.

Continuing 270 years of Mozart's musical legacy.

Davies Symphony Hall - San Francisco
Location   201 Van Ness Avenue

Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is the concert hall component of the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center in San Francisco, California. The 2,743-seat hall was completed in 1980 at a cost of US$28 million to give the San Francisco Symphony a permanent home. Previously, the symphony shared the neighboring War Memorial Opera House with the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet. The construction of Davies Hall allowed the symphony to expand to a full-time, year-round schedule.

Collaboratively designed by architects and acousticians to create an auditorium that allows sound to rise to its very top, this modern but warm space captures and diffuses music throughout the audience, creating an intimate setting that belies the stature of the building itself.  The Davies Symphony Hall Organ is one of the largest concert hall organs in North America.  It is designed to play all organ literature from pre-baroque through contemporary periods.

With sweeping views of San Francisco City Hall and the War Memorial Opera House, the curved glass-enclosed lobby offers an unmatched view of San Francisco’s Civic Center. The 2739-seat auditorium is ideal for concerts, speakers, readings and presentations. Named for the most generous benefactor of its construction, Louise M. Davies, Symphony Hall is dedicated to the joy of music.
