Programme

Overview

Celebrate the launch of a three-part series at Conway Hall with Michael Tippett’s exuberant First Quartet and profound Third Quartet, completed by Beethoven’s radiant ‘Harp’ Quartet. Join the ensemble bearing Tippett’s name for an evening of captivating musical dialogue.Conway Hall inaugurates its 2026/27 season with the first of three concerts devoted to Michael Tippett’s five string quartets, continuing through Spring and concluding in Summer 2027. The ensemble bearing Tippett’s name launches the series by pairing the youthful exuberance and rhythmic vitality of the First Quartet with the Third Quartet’s austere, hard-won mastery, charting the composer’s remarkable evolution. Completing the programme, Beethoven’s radiant ‘Harp’ Quartet contributes its shimmering pizzicati and lyrical warmth, establishing a cross-century dialogue between two titans of the quartet repertoire. In the intimate chamber setting, each movement unfolds with vivid expressivity—from buoyant scherzos to profound adagio passages—inviting audiences to experience string music at its most exhilarating and introspective. Join the ensemble for an evening that celebrates artistic transformation, technical prowess, and the timeless allure of chamber music.
