Programme

Overview

Join Edward Lloyd for a transcendent evening with Franz Liszt’s visionary piano cycle, from the deathly tolls of Funérailles to the radiant serenity of Bénédiction de Dieu dans la Solitude. Experience a monumental musical odyssey that reshapes the boundaries of Romanticism. This inaugural recital launches an exciting collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music, spotlighting the rising talent of their leading pianists. Edward Lloyd brings to life one of Franz Liszt’s most mystical and expansive cycles, inspired by Parisian Romantic poetry and traversing a vast emotional landscape. The programme moves from the grinding, deathly bells of Funérailles—evoking a sense of solemn grandeur—to the opulent, luminous tenderness of Bénédiction de Dieu dans la Solitude, where stillness and devotion coalesce in radiant harmony. Through Liszt’s monumental narrative force, this performance promises to carry listeners on an epic journey of spirit and scale, heralding the future of piano artistry.
