Programme
Overview
Experience the world premiere of "Meditations for Harpsichord", an immersive soundscape where harpsichord intertwines with Tibetan singing bowls, gongs and electronics. Led by artistic director Katarzyna Kowalik, this groundbreaking event unveils nine new commissions as well as a debut CD and book, inviting you into a space of deep reflection and mindful listening.Step into a luminous world where baroque tradition converges with twenty-first-century innovation: harpsichordist and artistic director Katarzyna Kowalik unveils Meditations for Harpsichord, premiering nine newly commissioned works that blend the crystalline tones of the harpsichord with the resonant overtones of Tibetan singing bowls, the deep gong vibrations and immersive live electronics. This multidisciplinary event also launches the Meditations for Harpsichord CD on Prima Facie Records and the Vision Edition book, with contributing composers and editors present to share insights and celebrate this ambitious international collaboration. Audiences are invited to shape their own listening practice—seated on chairs, perched on floor cushions, reclining on yoga mats or holding a personal object of contemplation—creating a communal space for reflection, stillness and deep listening. Throughout the evening, the interplay of ancient and modern sound worlds unfolds in a meditative journey: from delicate Baroque-inspired motifs to sustained metallic textures and electronic timbres that ebb and flow, guiding listeners toward moments of profound introspection. Supported by leading cultural foundations and private sponsors, this innovative project reimagines the harpsichord for our time and forges new pathways between contemporary music, mindfulness and community engagement.
