The Bulgaria Concert Hall was built by initiative of the Bulgaria Administrative Cooperative Saving Insurance Company as a part of a complex that was to include a hotel, too. In 1931 a competition was announced for the design of the complex, which is adjacent to the Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard. The competition was won by Architects Stancho Belkovski and Ivan Danchov, who designed the final project and assumed the implementation. The construction began in the spring of 1935 and the first parts that were built were the facility of Benkovski Street and the Bulgaria Hall.

Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel joins conductor Nayden Todorov and the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra for a special concert celebrating the power and drama of the operatic repertoire. One of the world’s most acclaimed voices, Terfel brings his commanding stage presence and distinctive artistry to an evening of symphonic and vocal music.
Sir Bryn Terfel, one of the most celebrated bass-baritones of our time, appears with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Nayden Todorov. Renowned for his powerful voice, dramatic intensity and wide-ranging repertoire, Terfel has performed leading roles on the world’s greatest opera stages and is particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Wagner, Mozart, Verdi and other major composers.
Joined by Nayden Todorov, the longtime director and conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic, Terfel takes part in a special concert combining the grandeur of the symphony orchestra with the expressive power of the operatic voice. The event promises an evening of exceptional vocal artistry and dramatic musical storytelling. The concert is scheduled for 18 October 2026 with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.
